The 19th Asian Games Hangzhou and the 4th Asian Paralympic Games Hangzhou will be held in Hangzhou from September to October, 2023. The 19th Asian Games Hangzhou and the 4th Asian Paralympic Games Hangzhou is not only the largest multi-sport event in Asia, but also a platform for cultural exchange, expecting a gathering of athletes, team officials, OCA(APC) family delegates, international sports organizations, technical delegates, technical officials, press and media delegates, rights-holding broadcasters, dignitaries, and spectators in Hangzhou, from over forty countries (regions) in Asia.
During the Games, the communication between medical personnel and foreign athletes and staff are being treated crucially, which guarantees the smooth running of the Asian Games in terms of medical treatment and emergencies. In order to further improve the standard of English communication skills used by the medical staff, Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine, organized the compilation of SITUATIONAL DIALOGUES ON MEDICAL SERVICES：An English Manual for the 19th Asian Games and 4th Para Games Hangzhou, under the guidance of the Medical Department of The 19th Asian Games Hangzhou Organising Committee. Moreover, the manual has also received support from New Oriental School Hangzhou.
This manual is a bilingual phrase book on health care services where users can simply point to the sentences they want to say in their native tongue and get the meaning across with the help of paralleled texts in the foreign language. This manual is divided into eight units, including Receiving Patients, Medical Enquiry, Physical Examinations, Supplementary Examinations, Treatment, CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), Medical Team Communication, and Case Demonstration. Each unit is written for the potential scenarios which could happen at the Asian Games and Asian Paralympic Games venues, in terms of rescue, treatment, and nursing.
