On April 26 and 27, 2024 China Health Science and Technology Innovation and Discipline Construction Conference & Conference on High-quality Development of Chinese Modern Hospital was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. The meeting is held annually. It aims to build a high-standard academic exchange platform that attracts experts and scholars in healthcare at home and abroad to discuss the latest news and trends of scientific and technological innovation and discipline construction and share experiences.

Dr. ZENG Yixin, Vice Chairman and Deputy Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the National Health Commission attended the meeting and delivered a speech. He pointed out that scientific and technological innovation and discipline construction should be driving forces for hospital high-quality development and greater contributors to medical technological progress and quality growth of the healthcare industry.

According to Dr. ZENG Yixin, we should give full play to our advantages and answer our calling by participating in the deployment of major national demands and rising to challenges in technological innovation, thus realizing science and technology self-reliance and self-improvement in healthcare.

Mr. LU Shan, Vice Governor of the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, said in his speech that through unremitted efforts of Zhejiang Provincial Party Committee and the provincial government over the recent years, the province has achieved a batch of landmark results in structural biology, gene editing, brain-computer integration, new drug development, high-end medical devices, digital medical care, etc. He stressed that Zhejiang province will further increase its efforts in pursuing health technological innovation, disciplinary construction, science and innovation platform building, and talent cultivation, thus solving sophisticated medical problems and improving the quality of healthcare.

Dr. CAI Xiujun, President of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital (SRRSH), affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine, said that over the past three decades, SRRSH has been dedicated to exploration with the strong support from all walks of life and the joint efforts of all medical staff. It has achieved high-quality leapfrog development and has become the pick of public hospitals nationwide. Notably, SRRSH is the first in China to introduce and develop minimally invasive technology and found the first minimally invasive medicine discipline and the first National Engineering Research Center for Minimally Invasive Instrument Innovation and Application. Looking ahead, the hospital will press on with innovative development and quality healthcare.

Mr. Deng Haihua, Party Secretary and President of Health News, said that the conference is an important enabler for SRRSH and Health News to pursue deepened cooperation and common growth, in which participants would embark on thorough discussion to shed light on high-quality development of the healthcare industry.

Mr. Wang Renyuan, Party Secretary and Head of the Health Commission of Zhejiang Province, expressed his hope that SRRSH would take its 30^th anniversary as an opportunity to set out a new journey featuring high quality and high standards. He expected the hospital to strive to ensure people's health across the whole lifecycle in an all-around manner and offer more efficient health services for the public. He also suggested that the hospital press ahead with the construction of medical centers at regional and national levels, speed up the translation of clinical research, integrate patient-centered philosophy into the whole process of services, and carve out new cooperation in new diagnosis and treatment techniques and new drugs by virtue of its international gene.

Dr. Raymond Chan, Chairman of the Shaw Foundation, said that the Shaw Foundation has always been concerned with the development of SRRSH and promoted medical technology innovation by organizing public welfare activities. Going forward, the foundation would donate money to facilitate collaboration with the hope that more like-minded people would join in and benefit society.

Dr. Richard Hart, President of Loma Linda University Health, briefly reviewed the past years of SRRSH with heartfelt admiration and appreciation for its employees’ dedication. According to Dr. Hart, fruitful results have been achieved since the early days of SRRSH and LLUH would continue to deepen the partnership with the hospital.

The conference also invited Dr. Ba Denian, Honorary Dean of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Dr. Du Jiangfeng, President of Zhejiang University, Dr. Song Erwei, Director of Health Science Center, Sun Yat-sen University, and Dr. Jorge Pascual, Interim President of Mayo Clinic International and Executive Medical Director of the Americas to deliver keynote speeches.

9 parallel sessions were set up, with themes including Chinese Modern Hospital Construction, Minimally Invasive Medicine Leading Peak Discipline Construction, Opportunities and Challenges of International Modern Medical Care, Health Communication and Disease Management, Digital Medicine and Smart Medical Care, Progress of Reproductive Medicine, Innovation and Transformation of Medical Science and Education, and Innovation and Empowerment of Magnetic Nursing.

The Exploration of High-quality Development of Chinese Modern Hospitals: Thirty Years of Innovative Development in Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine, Outline of Hospital Minimally Invasive Capacity Development and White Paper on Block-chain Application in Healthcare were released. Three memorandums were signed at the conference, namely Zhejiang University Education Foundation - the Shaw Foundation - Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine Memorandum of Donation, Memorandum of Project Cooperation between Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine and the Health News, and Cooperation Agreement between Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital, affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine and China Academy of Information and Communication Technology. Smart medical application “SRRSH digital humans” was launched.
