This is our 7th episode of  24SolarTerms & Health!

Here comes Minor Cold, the 23rd of the 24 traditional Chinese solar terms, ushering in the coldest days of the year in Hangzhou. While bracing for the bitter cold, take a moment to enjoy the glimmers of this season, be it the fragrance of plum blossoms, skating, or shopping for New Year.

Health tips from our Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) physician:

Avoid Overconsumption of Tonics: Winter is considered the best season for nourishing tonics, but overindulging can strain your digestive system, especially spleen Yang from a TCM perspective. If you feel any bloating or indigestion after consuming too many tonics, opt for foods that support the spleen and stomach, such as yam, euryale seeds, lotus seeds, and coix seeds.

Abdominal and Waist Massage: Massage your abdomen and waist. This practice helps promote blood circulation, regulates spleen function, and strengthens kidney essence.

Prevent the depletion of Yang energy: Cultivate a calm and peaceful mindset, get enough rest, avoid overextending yourself, and maintain a balance between body and mind.
