Overview

The department of Ophthalmology of Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital was founded by Professor Yao Yufeng in 1998. It is a clinical and educational center that integrates high quality medical care, educational training and academic research in Ophthalmology.

The department is equipped with the latest and most advanced instruments that allow the diagnosis and treatment of the most complex visual and eye-related problems. The department also offers various types of educational and training programs for medical students, visitors and researchers all over the world.

Our specialists provide a full range of eye care services, from routine eye screening to complex therapeutic management including laser treatment and surgeries. We have special expertise in corneal transplantation, cataract surgery, refractive surgery, retinal detachment, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and other diseases from the outside (eyelids) to the inside (vitreous and retina) of the eye. We also collaborate with other specialists (endocrinologists, cardiologist, oncologists and neurologists, etc.) to treat the eye problems caused by systemic conditions.

We routinely perform surgeries including micro-incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery, multifocal lens implantation to treat presbyopia, Femtosecond laser assisted- deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty / penetrating keratoplasty, anti-glaucoma surgery, ocular surface reconstruction, ocular plastic surgery, 23G vitrectomy, complicated retinal detachment repair, retinal laser treatment, and anti-VEGF intravitreal injection, etc. We also perform the most advanced corneal and intraocular refractive surgeries to correct myopia (short sight) and astigmatism, including femtosecond LASIK, small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) and intraocular lens (ICL) implantation.

With a full-service optical store, our eye care experts also provide comprehensive optometry services including vision examination, treatment for strabismus and amblyopia and refraction, eyeglasses dispensary and contact lenses prescription (soft, RGP and Orthokeratology).
